Are You Missing Out On Essential Fatty Acids?
A survey conducted by Flora has shown that almost two thirds (65%) of Irish
consumers say that they do not get enough omega 3 in their diet, with
almost one third of those surveyed (29%) stating that they don’t know what
omega 3 is or which foods contain these essential fatty acids.
Regular consumption of oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and trout with
its high levels of omega 3 has been scientifically proven to be good for
your heart. Flora’s research revealed that consumers are eating far less
than the recommended 1-2 portions of oily fish (the equivalent of 450 mg
of fish oils) per week with over half of those surveyed (55%) stating that
they and their families eat oily fish less than once or twice a week. This
is not surprising when we consider that only 19% find it ‘very easy’ to
include oily fish in their own and their families’ diets.
